In 2011, we published our first resources - a collection of six booklets on a variety of perinatal topics.

Lamaze Healthy Birth Practices
Plumtree Baby's childbirth education materials include all of the Essential Content, including information covering the Six Healthy Birth Practices used in Lamaze classes:
- Allow labor to begin on its own.
- Move and change positions during labor.
- Have a support system in place during labor.
- Avoid unnecessary interventions.
- Avoid birthing on your back and follow your body’s cues when it’s time to push.
- Keep mom and baby together.
Baby-Friendly®
Plumtree Baby’s parent education resources comply with the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes and fulfill the requirements based on The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, evidence-based practices established by the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). All of Plumtree Baby’s resources that contain postpartum, newborn or breastfeeding topics promote:
- Breastfeeding as the optimum nutrition for an infant.
- Immediate skin-to-skin after birth and continued skin-to-skin frequently for the first few weeks or more to facilitate breastfeeding.
- Avoidance of bottles or pacifiers until breastfeeding is well established.
- Infants should be fed on demand at least 8-12 times in 24 hours.
- Tips for breastfeeding, including latching, positioning (including laid-back positioning) and hunger cues.
- Guidance on overcoming breastfeeding challenges.

Julie Olson
Founder & President, Author, LCCE, FACCE
Julie Olson is the founder of Plumtree Baby. She is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and Fellow of the Academy of Certified Childbirth Educators. She has a Masters-level education in science and over 25 years of education, research and writing experience. She is passionate about helping families have a healthy pregnancy and a gentle, fulfilling birth experience.
In 2011, Julie was inspired to create Plumtree Baby (along with the help of her amazing team). She recognized that birth and medical professionals were in need of modern, comprehensive and flexible teaching resources and set about creating them. After more than ten years in business, she is proud to continue to grow Plumtree Baby across the globe.
Katie Immel
Graphic Designer, Co-Author, Childbirth Educator, Doula
Katie Immel is an author and designer with Plumtree Baby. She has been part of the team from the beginning. She is an experienced childbirth educator and birth doula, holding a variety of certifications over the years.
Katie believes that pregnancy and birth are pivotal life experiences and that it is critical that parents become fully informed about all aspects of birth and make the healthiest, safest choices for themselves and their babies.
Combining Katie's English and Communications degree with her passion for empowering parents, Katie has been thrilled to serve birth professionals through her role with Plumtree Baby.
Gloria Mendoza
Translator & Medical Advisor, M.P.H., M.D.
Gloria Mendoza was born in Mexico. As she was growing up, she was blessed with the opportunity to study in both Texas and Mexico, becoming fully bilingual. She graduated from Medical School in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, and obtained a Master's in Public Health from the University of North Texas. Life and fate got her to move to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to work in the education field.
In 2018, Gloria and her husband began a translation business called Seasoned Words. They select projects that are meaningful to them and that have value to the world. As a mother, a doctor, and a bilingual educator, Plumtree Baby is by far one of her favorites!
